On Wednesday 5th March 2025, Freemasons from around the county gathered in the magnificent Holmes Lodge room in Leicester to celebrate Richard Jelly’s 50th year as a Freemason.

St John’s Lodge No.279, the oldest lodge in existence in Leicester, consecrated on the 11th November 1790 was fortunate to have welcomed a new member on the 5th March 1975, one Richard Stewart Jelly. Being the son of a Freemason, Richard’s ambitions in the lodge were clear, where after 20 year, in 1995 he became Master of the Lodge.
Richard, who has held very high and prestigious offices in the Royal Arch, and also a Grand Officer in the Craft recognition from the United Grand Lodge of England, has indeed been a tremendous supporter of the Lodge as well as Freemasonry in general.
The Head of Leicestershire & Rutland Freemasons, Peter Kinder was pleased to invite his team along to the occasion at St John’s Lodge, and to present him with a certificate to celebrate the 50-year milestone. Afterwards, the dining hall was full as a superb meal was prepared, served, and enjoyed.
